Residence of Ku Din Ku Meh or known as Segara Ninda is  a beautiful heritage home  located in the middle of the busy Upper Penang Road night spot in Georgetown, the capital of Penang, Malaysia.

 

Segara Ninda is a charming colonial building with traditional Malay motifs that dates back to the late 19th century. It once belonged to the late Ku Din Ku Meh or Tengku Baharudin bin Tengku Meh, the governor and King of Satun,  Thailand in the early 1900.

 

The Residence of Ku Din Ku Meh has been beautifully restored. It now belongs to the descendents of Ku Din who very much welcome visitors to the mansion for day visits and short stay. Visitors can experience the splendour of nineteeth century architecture and atmosphere, the comfort and energy of twenty first century Penang and the warm hospitality of the descendents of Ku Din.

LODGING

 

This house offers a place for people who appreciate history and heritage, and at the same time who want security, coziness, comfort and privacy. It has 14 classic rooms of reasonable sizes with attached bathrooms and external individual bathrooms. It also boasts of a verandah that looks out into Penang Road and a nice compound with sweet smelling flowering trees. The rooms are all equipped with fans and air-conditioning units  to give tenants a choice of fresh air or cool comfort.

CRAFT AND PRODUCTS OF CULTURE

 

Segara Ninda which is on the Penang heritage trail displays some historical artifacts of interest to history lovers. It is also a small outlet for local crafts and products of culture.

Segara Ninda can offer a beautiful setting for a family reunion and a gathering of friends. Its compound is perfect for holding a barbecue or a small khenduri or a reception.

Segara Ninda offers convenience. Staretegically located in the heart of Georgetown, the capital of Penang, it is just minutes from public transport, historical landmarks, cultural centers and food outlets. Shopping venues such as Penang’s shopping malls and quaint shops are accessible from the bungalow. It is also walking distance to Penang’s business district and government district. The beach is also also within easy reach from here.

How to get to Segara

“Segara Ninda” (or the Residence of Ku Din Ku Meh is about 10 kilometers from Penang International Airport. It is less than 2 kilometers from the ferry terminal.

 

A taxi ride from Penang International Airport during off-peak hours will normally take approximately 30 minutes.

 

A taxi ride from the ferry terminal (if you’re coming from mainland Penang) will take less than 5 minutes. If you travel light and doesn’t mind a little discomfort, you can try Penang’s unique trishaws which are often readily available at the terminal and maybe slightly cheaper. This bumpy but interesting ride will take you about 10 minutes to get to Segara.
